The waivers and modifications of statutory and regulatory provisions pursuant to the Higher Education Relief Opportunities for Students (HEROES) Act of 2003, initially announced in the December 12, 2003 Federal Register, has been extended until September 30, 2012.

These waivers and modifications provide additional financial relief for those individuals who have served in recent military operations. The objective of these waivers is to ensure that applicable individuals (those impacted by military operations and national emergencies) are not adversely affected when applying for or receiving assistance of Title IV aid.

In light of recent statutory and regulatory changes the Secretary intends to review the waivers and modifications published on December 12, 2003. Any changes to these waivers and modifications will be published in a notice in an upcoming Federal Register. HESC will provide an announcement with information on the changes.
