Student Financial Aid Awareness Month Kicks Off
Governor Paterson has designated January 25 – February 25, 2010 Student Financial Aid Awareness Month in New York State. The primary objective of this Month is to inform and educate students and families about all of the financial aid opportunities available to help pay for college, and to promote the completion of the most important tool in securing financial aid, the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
The New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC), with the support of many partners throughout the State, has launched a new campaign, “START HERE. GET THERE,” to convey this key message to New York State students and families.
Our new Web site,StartHereGetThere.org is dedicated to Student Financial Aid Awareness Month, providing questions and answers about FAFSA completion, tips and tools, engaging videos, and a list of financial aid information nights and FAFSA completion events throughout the State.
You can help educate your students about college financial aid by adding the attached banner ad to your Web site and linking it directly to StartHereGetThere.org. Additional options and sizes are available in the site’s Media Kit. I would also encourage you to download and hang our “START HERE. GET THERE” posters so your students know where to find information about local Student Financial Aid Awareness Month activities, or print and distribute the “Money for College” fact sheet and the “Tips for Completing the FAFSA” to your students.
Thank you for your support in helping New York State students and families make their college dreams a reality.
Sincerely,
Elsa Magee Executive Vice President, Acting President
