Student TAP Coach - Admission Requirements
Each institution establishes its requirements for admission to various programs and levels of study. However, New York State Education Law imposes a basic entrance requirement for eligibility for the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and other State student financial aid programs.
To be eligible, you must satisfy one of the following requirements:

- Have a high school equivalency diploma or GED;
- Achieve passing scores on one of four approved “ability-to-benefit” tests—tests that demonstrate that a student can benefit from the education being offered;
- Have earned a prior degree;
- Qualify for a high school equivalency diploma by earning 24 semester hour credits at an accredited college in the following required subjects: 6 credits in English, 3 credits in the Humanities, 3 credits in the Natural Sciences, 3 credits in Mathematics, 3 credits in the Social Sciences, and 6 additional credits applicable to your program of study; or
- Have documentation from the local school district of completion of high school requirements if home schooled.
