Michael Turner's career in financial aid began in 1999, while he was working toward his Bachelor’s Degree, when he joined Fordham University’s Enrollment Group as a part-time worker. It was there, while working side-by-side with financial aid counselors who were guiding both new and continuing students and their families, that he first learned about the financial aid process.
In 2003, Michael was recruited to join Fordham’s financial aid staff as a full-time aid counselor at the Lincoln Center campus. In this role he worked directly with students and their families helping them find cost-saving ways to pay for college. While there, he took charge of the university’s Return of Title IV Funds (R2T4), Aid for Part Time Study (APTS), and Study Abroad programs.
Shortly thereafter, Michael was promoted to Senior Counselor and took charge of the Lincoln Center campus loan program. During his time as loan coordinator, he worked directly with agencies such as HESC, as well as numerous FFEL lenders, to improve the loan program at the university and find the best loan options for students. In addition, he counseled undergraduate and graduate students on their student loan responsibilities, including responsible borrowing, credit, and debt management.
Over the years Michael has attended numerous FAA conferences and workshops including NASFAA, NYSFAAA, and HESC’s annual Loan Symposium. He is a proud alumnus of the NYSFAAA Novice Program (2004 – Manhattanville College).
