HESC’s E-Library is @ Your Service
Electronic library will house articles for use by guidance and financial aid professionals, media

The New York State Higher Education Services Corp. (HESC) is introducing a new feature – an electronic library – on its freshly redesigned Web site.

An electronic library, accessible through the HESC Web site, will house articles on a wide range of financial aid and financial literacy topics geared especially to middle, high school and college students and their families.

The feature-style columns are available free for publication in the news media, guidance and financial aid publications at schools and colleges, and for reference by the general public.

The e-library will be routinely updated and will contain articles relevant to middle, high school and college students as they prepare for the responsibilities of attending and paying for college.

Subjects include: financial literacy topics for middle and high school students; protecting against identity theft; planning for financial aid applications; the “invisible” costs of college, and more.

Editors may use the free articles by downloading the materials to their computers.

HESC is the state agency that helps people pay for college and is the nation’s largest
in-state student loan guaranty agency providing more grant and scholarship money to college students than any other state in the nation.

HESC guaranteed nearly $7 billion in new and consolidated student loans in state fiscal year 2005-06 and provided $865 million through the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) to nearly 395,000 students in academic year 2005-06.

HESC administers New York’s 529 College Savings Program, a nationally-acclaimed program which boasts more than $6 billion in assets, and also handles more than 25 state and federal grants and scholarships.

HESC also provides training and technical services to financial aid administrators, high school counselors, and lenders.
