HESC's Insider Spotlight: Warren Hoffman
Mike Williams
During his long career at Buffalo State, Warren has accomplished much, including building a reputation for helping others.
In recent years, he wrote and produced an orientation video that conveys financial aid information to first-year students. For the past three years, he has volunteered as a campus Early Assessment Program coordinator.
Although Warren is too humble to publicly share the numerous stories, many of the students he has assisted during his long career continue to seek him out for advice and to share their achievements.
Anyone who knows Warren is aware he possesses a unique spirit for helping others. He demonstrates this spirit by continually volunteering his time, expending personal effort on behalf of worthy people and causes.
For years, Warren served on the New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association (NYSFAAA) Executive Council, spending two terms as their vice president of membership. In 1994, and again in 2002, he co-chaired the NYSFAAA Conference. In 2002, NYSFAAA recognized Warren with their “Founders Award,” an honor bestowed upon those members who have given significant amounts of their time, vision and service to the association.
Earlier this year, Warren was elected to a two-year term as president of the State University of New York Financial Aid Professionals (SUNYFAP), a state association that is best known for fostering professional growth and communication for its members.
It was not surprising during Warren’s acceptance speech at the 2006 SUNYFAP Conference in Glens Falls that he outlined the central theme of his presidency, “volunteerism.”
Even before his term as president became official at the April SUNYFAP conference, Warren had been contacting and encouraging members to become active as volunteers because, as he likes to say, “many hands make light work.”
HESC would like to congratulate Warren on his most recent accomplishment – the 2006 recipient of Buffalo State College’s President’s Award for Excellence in Service.
Congratulations Warren!
