To remain eligible for financial aid, you have to be in good academic standing. To be in good academic standing, you have to make satisfactory academic progress toward the completion of your program of study, and you have to pursue your program of study each term you receive an award payment. Satisfactory progress is a measure of your achievement and requires that you earn a specified number of credits toward your degree or certificate with a minimum specified cumulative grade point average. Pursuit of program is a measure of your effort to complete--to get grades in--a specified percentage of your course load.
Effective for the 1995-96 academic year and thereafter, New York State Education Law requires that a recipient of State student financial aid maintain a minimum cumulative C average after receiving four full-time semester award payments or the equivalent. Additionally, the law mandates the following minimum standards of satisfactory academic progress for students receiving their first State award in academic year 2006-07 and thereafter:

If you received your first award prior to the 2006-07 academic year, your college may adopt the above standards in Education Law or may continue to use standards of satisfactory academic progress submitted to and approved by the Commissioner of Education.
