Helpful Hint

In July, August, and September, HESC's call volume is highest on Monday and Tuesday. Avoid delays by calling toll free on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday.

By Telephone

  • Call toll free at 1-888-NYSHESC (1-888-697-4372) or 1-518-473-1574 between 8:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. Eastern time Monday through Friday.
  • The toll-free number for the telecommunications device for the deaf (TDD) is 1-800-445-5234.
  • The Customer Communication Center answers general inquiries. If you are calling about your TAP grant or student loan, please have your account number ready.

By e-Mail

  • For inquiries about your education loans or State grants and scholarships e-mail HESC at HescWebMail.
  • So that we may better assist you, please provide the student's name, date of birth, and the last four digits of the Social Security Number in the e-mail inquiry.
  • If you have questions about a defaulted student loan, send your e-mail to defaulthelp@hesc.org.
