Congratulations to George Chin On His Retirement
Ken Storms
A guiding force in the financial aid community and an important voice at HESC for many years, George Chin has retired from his position as university director of financial aid at CUNY.
As a member of, and then CUNY’s designated representative to the HESC Board of Trustees for 20 years, and as board vice-chair from 1989-1994, George was an important, representative voice for aid administrators and students.
His command of aid policies and procedures and his keen analysis of program data were essential elements that shaped college aid programs in New York. They made him a leader both at his school and in his profession.
Whether serving as NYSFAAA president, EASFAA president, chairman of the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, or as a member of HESC’s board, George’s point of view was based on his dedication to the concept of student choice.
He knew that the student aid delivery system was there for students first, and institutions second. This student-first approach helped to keep HESC’s administration of New York’s aid programs focused on making sure students had both access to the best higher education in the nation and the financial means to make the best choices for their future.
All of us at HESC, and in New York’s higher education community, wish George the best.
We appreciate having had the opportunity to work with someone so dedicated to the goal of student success.
