In the Spotlight: Laura Anglin and Dr. Nancy Zimpher

HESC is pleased to Spotlight two of our new colleagues this month, Laura Anglin, President of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities (cIcu) and Dr. Nancy Zimpher, Chancellor of the State University of New York (SUNY). HESC was fortunate to have both Ms. Anglin and Dr. Zimpher as keynote speakers at this year's HESC Symposium, held on September 16th and 17th.
Laura Anglin
Laura Anglin recently began her service as the seventh president of cIcu, a nonprofit organization that represents the chief executives of New York's 100+ independent, not-for-profit colleges and universities on issues of public policy. Prior to joining cIcu, she served as the Budget Director of New York State, a position to which she was appointed in 2008 by then Governor Spitzer, and that she continued under Governor Paterson.Ms. Anglin has a long history of state service, holding the positions of Deputy Comptroller for the State of New York, Budget Director and First Deputy Fiscal Director for the Assembly Ways and Means Committee, and economics positions at both the Department of Environmental Conservation and the Department of Taxation and Finance.
Ms. Anglin's career in public service spans more than 20 years, and includes leadership roles in fiscal management, public policy, economic analysis, and public administration. During her career, she has played a central policy-making role in a broad range of policy areas, including education, higher education, transportation, taxation, the environment, and public protection.
Dr. Nancy Zimpher
Since taking the office of Chancellor of the State University of New York earlier this year, Dr. Nancy Zimpher has been very busy travelling throughout the state, visiting all 64 campuses in the SUNY system. Dr. Zimpher is the 12th Chancellor of SUNY and brings her unique experience and vision to New York.Prior to taking the helm at SUNY, Dr. Zimpher was president of the University of Cincinnati, an urban research university with 16 colleges, an academic medical and research center, and an annual $1 billion budget. Under her leadership, refinements in the University’s operations and programming led to dramatic improvements in the University’s retention, graduation, and student satisfaction ratings, as well as its national rankings.
Dr. Zimpher served in executive leadership roles at both the University Wisconsin-Milwaukee and Ohio State University.
Throughout her career, Dr. Zimpher has authored or co-authored numerous books, monographs and academic journal articles on teacher education, urban education, academic leadership and school/university partnerships.
