In the Spotlight: Sean View
Dawn Langdon
HESC is pleased to shine the spotlight on Sean View, associate director of financial aid at Hobart and William Smith Colleges and NYSFAAA’s 2007 Rising Star.
With energy and enthusiasm, Sean has made the most of the five years since graduating from Syracuse University with a degree in information management and technology.
Following in the professional footsteps of his father (Sean’s father is the Director at SUNY Environmental Sciences and Forestry), Sean began his career as a financial aid counselor at Tompkins Cortland Community College (TC3).
The position was a perfect fit for Sean – giving him the opportunity to work with students while applying his information management skills to the development of TC3’s online student financial aid system.
Sean’s time at TC3 gave him an opportunity to develop and hone his financial aid credentials and prepared him for his current position at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
“The people make Hobart and William Smith an amazing school and an inspiring place to work. I am proud to have become in integral part of such a progressive school community.”
In addition to his school-related responsibilities, Sean has distinguished himself as one of NYSFAAA’s most active figures. He has quickly climbed the NYSFAAA ranks to become chair of Region III, chair of the Budget and Finance Committee, regional liaison to the Statewide Training Committee, and regional co-representative to the Statewide Mentoring Committee. He is also proud to serve as the co-chair of the Program Committee for the 2008 40th Annual Conference to be held in Buffalo.
As important as NYSFAAA and Hobart and William Smith are, for Sean it all comes back to the students.
“What makes it all worthwhile is the reaction of the student or parent whose eyes are opened to the ways we can help them gain access to higher education. So often their gratitude is overwhelming. Being able to help students achieve their dreams and goals is why I keep walking through the office door each day.”
An avid skier and golfer when he is not in the office or attending a NYSFAAA meeting, you’ll find Sean enjoying either the slopes or courses of the Finger Lakes region or working on the next project at his almost 100-year-old home.
Sean’s energy and enthusiasm inspire his professional and personal relationships. At HESC, we feel privileged to call him our colleague.
